Last week I was in Mayville, Wisconsin—a town of about 4,000 people and, more importantly to me, the place where my wife went to high school.
While I was there, I discovered that my friend Vance was also in Mayville. The last time I had seen him was probably ten years ago in California, so we quickly arranged to meet.
Vance and I share a passion for helping people from different cultures discover Jesus. As we talked, he told me about an outreach idea I had never considered.
Vance regularly visits a park where many Afghan people gather. He and some friends sit together and begin watching the JESUS Film in an Afghan language.
People walking past sometimes hear their own language and stop to see what is happening. They may not stay to watch the entire film, but Vance gives them a card showing them how they can watch it later at home.
One evening, they distributed 100 cards. During the following week, about 60 people visited the website to watch the video.
That conversation reminded me of Hebrews 10:24:
“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”
When Christians share what they are learning, we encourage one another to try new ways of helping people discover Jesus.
You can use JESUS Film cards to introduce people to several helpful videos:
- JESUS Film
- Magdalena—the story of Jesus from a woman’s perspective
- The Story of Jesus for Children
- The Christmas Story
- The Easter Story
You can also order JESUS Film cards in many languages here:
Perhaps you would like to try showing a JESUS Film video in a park, community gathering or another public setting. Write to me, and I will help connect you with Vance so you can learn from his experience.
I would also like to learn from you.
What questions, resources or outreach ideas are helping you share Jesus naturally—particularly with people from other cultures?
Please write and tell me. From time to time, I would like to share some of these ideas with the other 4,000 people who receive this email each week.
We have a lot to learn from one another.
Have fun talking with people about Jesus.
Walking together,
